1. Could you tell us a little about yourself and your background?

ISABELLA

I am a creative consultant. I have worked in the fashion industry for 15 years, with my recent position as COO of Copenhagen Fashion Week that I wrapped up in August of this year. I have contributed to a range of titles over the years as a writer, from British Vogue, Cabana, World of Interiors. Vogue Scandinavia, The Business Post amongst others, collaborating with the fabulous Nuria Val across special travel assignments, projects and Rowse too for many years.

I have had the opportunity to work on books, from a special photobook on the artwork of Lucia Eames, daughter of the design legends Ray and Charles Eames, to editing the 2025 Sake Potts Tome and recently writing a chapter for Routledge’s new compendium on Fashion and Business.

In the spring of 2026 I started conch books in order to celebrate the connective power of books and printed matter. Since launching we have collaborated with cultural institutions ranging from Louisiana Museum to Copenhagen Contemporary and Design Museum Denmark, publishers such as Fitzcarraldo Editions, and brands including Nike, Vince and Ferm Living to name a few.

2. What does a typical day in your life look like?

ISABELLA

I am a creature of habit, so I do love repetition in my day. I aim to always have a coffee in bed and read for half an hour. Is there any greater luxury? While continuity can often be hard in my schedule, having a moment with a book in the morning is my one non-negotiable.

3. Where do you find inspiration outside of your work?

ISABELLA

One of the best pieces of advice I have ever received was to remember to smell the roses. It is so easy to move through life just focusing on our road ahead, but I try to continue to remind myself to look left and right, and take in the view. When I do that I can find inspiration in so many things, but it is mostly when I am outside, either walking or running in nature that my most exciting thoughts come to me. I hope one day I own a little cottage on the west coast of Ireland, as that is truly the most beautiful part of the world, and where I feel most at ease, and in turn the most creative.

4. You've been a long time friend and customer of ROWSE. Do you have a favorite ROWSE product?

ISABELLA

I have been lucky to have known ROWSE since its inception, conceived with the Winter Body Oil, which to this day is my absolute favourite smell. It is so evocative of something I cannot quite put my finger on, but it is a nostalgia trigger, and a scent that makes me feel absolutely at ease.

I wear ROWSE in the morning, at night and when I want to dress up. I find skincare and beauty somewhat intimidating but ROWSE keeps it natural and simple, and so easy to incorporate into a routine. It feels like a perfect summary of Nuria and the values she has always carried as integral to her: a dedication to nature, on the wonder of simplicity, as building connective tools to cultivate community.

5. How did your personal relationship with books inspire the creation of Conch Books?

ISABELLA

I have always loved reading, and books have always been a huge part of my life. I do not constitute myself a particularly fast reader, widely read, or of an intellect with literature, but more I found them to be a crux, and a friend of sorts. Some of my loneliest memories I can remember would lean on the familiar embrace of a book, and if I think of times I was at my most happiest it was in the presence of nature with something to read. I do not think these are isolated experiences - in fact I feel these are very much global viewpoints, and that was what I was keen to celebrate and explore: the wonderfully connective power books and printed matter can have.

6. Conch Books brings together literature, art, fashion and design. How do these different creative worlds influence your vision?

ISABELLA

Conch Books is a confluence of all the things I love and have shaped me for who I am, in a sense. I was lucky enough to grow up in a home where art was at its heart (my parents were art conservators) and I have worked in fashion for 15 years (20 if you count my years as a shop girl in vintage stores too). I have had the opportunity to work more and more in the design world in recent years, and books are my greatest comfort in my life. I wanted Conch Books to merge worlds, and craft connective threads between all these creative fields.

7. Through initiatives like Living Library, you bring people together around books. What role does community play in Conch Books?

ISABELLA

Community is a word bandied around a lot these days, and a word I am thinking about a lot these days is that of clusters. Cultivating true communities takes time and mutual commitment, while gathering strangers together into clusters allows for new friendship networks to formulate, and to grow. Community is something society needs more than ever, I feel, but we should not rush it either. We are proud to have built a strong and growing community already with Conch Books, and are so grateful for all the people that have supported us since we launched.

8. What do you find most fascinating about books as physical objects?

ISABELLA

As much as our lives can feel dictated by the digital, we as humans crave the physical and tangible. The touch, feeling, and simply the ritual of reading is one that feels so universal and so human. They can also tell us a lot about a person, just from a glance at their books on their bedside table.

9. Through Conch Books, you explore the personal libraries of different creative figures. What have these encounters taught you about people's relationships with books?

ISABELLA

A library can be five or five thousand books: that is something we are keen to spotlight in Conch Books. We want to show how books are central to the lives we lead, whether we realise it or not, and that the universal experience of books is something we should all celebrate. I want to use the platform of Conch Books to help people discover new books, and hopefully new sources of inspiration.

10. With a curated audiobook app planned for 2027, how do you envision the future of Conch Books?

ISABELLA

The name Conch Books initially came from the inspiration of a Conch shell being something you put to your ear in order to hear the ocean. I loved this analogy for books as holding such a transportative power.

The plan in the future is to create a simple audiobook rental platform with 3 books offered each month, that could then host events and book clusters around the world for each monthly selection. I want to highlight the connections between physical books and audiobooks, as I do believe a connection can be built, in order to explore the way books can be part of our lives.
