Every year, at ROWSE, we organize a friends-and-press trip to a destination we deeply love. We’re drawn to wild, raw landscapes and seek places that offer a sense of adventure and discovery. This year, the Faroe Islands felt like the perfect choice, with their untamed beauty and unique character.
Yes, this was my first trip to the Faroe Islands. I had always wanted to visit, captivated by the unreal landscapes, charming villages, and incredible restaurants I’d heard so much about.
We stayed at Hotel Føroyar, a beautiful and serene spot that perfectly complemented the surrounding landscapes. For dining, we enjoyed an unforgettable meal at restaurant ROKS, known for its innovative take on Faroese cuisine (my favorite!). We also made a point to explore multiple islands, each offering its own unique charm and experiences. We did a ROWSE workshop with a private lunch, offering a traditional soup, and it was amazing.
The Faroe Islands are unlike any other destination. The dramatic landscapes and the distinct character of each island create a universe that feels otherworldly. Despite their small size, there’s so much to explore in just a few days. One highlight was a boat trip where we saw breathtaking waterfalls, hidden beaches, and an abundance of birdlife. It was magical.
This time, I went with friends, but I would definitely bring my daughter on a future visit. She loves discovering new places, and the Faroe Islands would be an incredible destination for adventurous kids. The natural beauty, wildlife, and opportunities for exploration make it a perfect family adventure.
Tjørnuvík stands out as a favorite. It’s one of the oldest towns in the Faroe Islands and an incredible beach town surrounded by mountains. Watching kids play on the beach, carefree and happy, was amazing. It is also a very known surf spot. The town’s charm, combined with the stunning scenery made it my favorite.
The Faroe Islands offered us a journey filled with awe and inspiration, a destination that’s as humbling as it is beautiful. It’s a place where adventure and tranquility meet, leaving an indelible mark on everyone who visits.
Day 1 — Arrival in Tórshavn
Arrive in Tórshavn, the capital of the Faroe Islands, and check in at Hotel Føroyar, a serene four-star hotel set above the city, surrounded by open landscapes.
Spend the day exploring the areas close to the capital. Nearby valleys and villages such as Norðadalur, Velbastaður, and Kirkjubøur offer striking scenery and a first glimpse into Faroese life. If time allows, drive through the newly opened tunnel to Sandoy to discover the sand dunes of Sandur, or continue west toward Vágar Island, stopping in Bøur and Gásadalur to see dramatic cliffs, turf-roofed houses, and the iconic waterfall by the sea.
Further north, the Fossá waterfall and the black sand beach of Tjørnuvík make for a powerful introduction to the islands’ wild character.
Day 2 — Tórshavn & Sea Exploration
Begin the day in Tórshavn, wandering through the city and preparing for the ROWSE beauty event. The capital blends small-scale charm with a strong cultural identity, making it an ideal base for the journey.
In the evening, head out to sea for a boat trip around the dramatic sea stacks of Dranganir and Tindhólmur. Seen from the water, the Faroe Islands reveal another dimension—steep cliffs, birdlife, and a sense of scale that can only be experienced offshore. Return to Tórshavn for the night.
Day 3 — Bøur, Villages & Faroese Cuisine
The day begins with the ROWSE beauty event in Bøur, set within a traditional Faroese space overlooking the landscape. Afterward, spend the afternoon exploring villages beyond the capital.
Highlights include Gásadalur and its waterfall, the northern coast of Streymoy, and the villages of Funningur and Gjógv on Eysturoy. For those heading further north, Kunoy, Viðareiði, and Árnafjørður offer some of the most striking viewpoints in the archipelago.
In the evening, return to Tórshavn for dinner at ROKS, the relaxed sister restaurant to the two-Michelin-starred KOKS, housed in a historic turf-roofed building and known for its modern take on Faroese cuisine.
Day 4 — Local Craft & Departure
After breakfast and checkout, enjoy a final morning in Tórshavn. Meet the knitwear designers behind Guðrun & Guðrun, whose work reflects Faroese tradition and craftsmanship.
Before heading to the airport, stop by Steinprent, a lithographic workshop by the harbour, to experience another facet of the islands’ creative scene. Depart in the afternoon with Atlantic Airways, carrying with you a journey shaped by landscape, culture, and rhythm.
