What story does your skin tell?

Photographer Rosa Borrell has found in nature more than just a source of inspiration for her artistic practice. To her, nature is everything—it’s in everything. With a captivating aesthetic and an ever-poetic eye, she explores the human body and the intricate details of the skin in all its beauty for ROWSE. Because skin tells the story of who we are.

For me, nature is everything –it’s in everything. It’s me, my essence, my feelings, my skin, and my everyday life. It’s my partner, my family, my friends, and my cats. It’s in my room and the light that filters through the window every morning. It’s in the new places I travel to that, over time, become part of me. It’s the summers in Formentera, the smell of pine trees swaying in the wind, a ray of sun on my skin, the sea salt on my lips, the sand between my toes, the salty fruit, the scent of fennel on the path home. It’s childhood, innocence, calm, and solitude.
My relationship with photography is a very intimate one. I use my camera to see myself from outside of myself. Through the lens, I can see skin in a very different light, paying attention to details that might usually go unnoticed. I’m not seeking perfection; instead, I aim to portray skin as it is—with no filters, without hiding or concealing anything. Skin tells stories, holds memories, and reveals who we truly are. Every skin has its own marks, textures, lights, and shadows that make it stand apart. It has pores and scars; spots, freckles and moles; fine lines, wrinkles and stretch marks –they all tell the story of who we are, they make us real, unique, and beautiful.
