Sonia Perdeck's surreal dreams

Nature inspires me in many ways. When I started taking pictures, I was mainly shooting on film and was very fascinated by the colours, shapes, and textures I saw around me. I remember my excitement playing with dancing shadows, and it always felt magical to capture that on film. Now I like to interfere a bit more with nature, by having a more sculptural rather than documentary approach. In this way, my photos have become a bit more surrealistic.

Since I moved closer to the beach, this has been a place to calm my mind and allow new creative ideas to pop up. I find the sea so fascinating, it's delicate and powerful and has such a big influence on the land. I usually collect shells or sea glass and I spend countless hours wondering about the many places those objects have travelled to, how long have they been floating around in the ocean? Time and space, it might be just a matter of perception.
